Norman Love Confections chefs take home 2015 Chocolatier of the Year

Norman Love Confections is pleased to announce that chefs Brittany Mateika and Molly Rothermel of Norman Love Confections have received national recognition as first and second place winners of Pastry Live’s 2015 Chocolatier of the Year competition. Sixteen chocolate artisans from across the country participated in the 2015 Chocolatier of the Year competition, held in Atlanta. Each contestant entered two different types of handcrafted chocolate creations to be evaluated by judges and an audience.

Mateika received first place in the 2015 Chocolatier of the Year competition. Her first piece was an “Apricot Lavender Shortbread,” which consisted of a shortbread base with layers of vanilla-lavender ganache and apricot ganache, surrounded by white chocolate. Mateika’s second entry was her “Banana Almond Praline,” which contained an almond praline and feuilletine layer, filled with banana and milk chocolate ganaches and covered in milk chocolate.

Molly Rothermel of Norman Love Confections received second place in Pastry Live’s 2015 Chocolatier of the Year competition with her “Cassis-Pistachio” and “Coffee-Hazelnut” entries.

Rothermel received second place in the competition with her “Cassis-Pistachio,” which contained cassis jam, vanilla ganache and pistachio praline wrapped in dark chocolate, and her “Coffee-Hazelnut,” which featured hazelnut crunch, gianduja and coffee ganaches, encased in a dark chocolate shell.

Brittany Mateika and Molly Rothermel of Norman Love Confections recently competed in Pastry Live’s 2015 Chocolatier of the Year competition, winning first and second place.

The 2015 Chocolatier of the Year competition is designed to offer chocolate artisans from around the country the opportunity to exhibit their knowledge and talent for chocolate artistry. Each contestant must enter a signature-molded chocolate and a creatively enrobed chocolate that demonstrates enrobing skills, flavor profiles and creative flair. Winners are carefully selected according to their expertise and abilities through the judging of taste and appearance. The highly-esteemed title of Chocolatier of the Year title is awarded to the creator of the highest-quality of handcrafted chocolate.
