Artisan Gelato by Norman Love adds savory crepes to enhance lineup of sweet treats

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 30, 2014) – While Artisan Gelato by Norman Love has built its reputation on wondrous frozen desserts, there’s now more to love at this upscale dessert parlor: savory crepes.

The shop has added six savory crepes to its menu, which makes it an ideal place to stop for a bite to eat, followed, of course, by dessert.

Norman Love, also founder of Norman Love Confections located in the same complex, added gelato to his sweet success story, then decided to put the savory dishes on the menu because of his personal love for crepes.

“We’re constantly asked for something savory and we’ve never had anything to offer,” Love said. “Crepes go well with what we already do and they are part of my best memories from my travels in Europe.”

Options include the pizza crepe – filled with fresh tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella and Parmesan, thinly sliced pepperoni and garlic olive oil; the roasted vegetable crepe – with tomato sauce, grilled eggplant, peppers, zucchini and squash, mozzarella and Parmesan, and aged balsamic vinegar; the honey roasted ham and Swiss crepe – with ham and cheese, Dijon cream and mayonnaise; BLT with Swiss crepe – thick slices of maple bacon topped with Swiss and finished with lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, salt and black pepper; roasted turkey and cheddar crepe – roasted turkey, cheddar and herbed mayonnaise; and the caprese crepe – basil pesto, fresh mozzarella and tomato, aged balsamic drizzle, sea salt and cracked pepper.

Each one is accompanied by a small green salad topped with a flavorful vinaigrette dressing. Crepes sell for $7.50 each and are available for takeout in a convenient cardboard crepe case for on-the-go consumption.

For those who dine in, a second course might then be a yeasty waffle topped with gelato, whipped cream and chocolate sauce or a simple but purely delicious cup of freshly made gelato.

Artisan Gelato by Norman Love serves handmade authentic Italian artisan gelato as well as an array of fresh handmade French crepes, Belgian waffles, artisan pastries and a selection of sweet treats. Located at 11300 Lindbergh Blvd. in Fort Myers, Artisan Gelato is open 11:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 239-288-4333, or visit
